My Take

Busta Rhymes is one of the great paradoxes in hip-hop, twelve Grammy nominations and not a single win, yet nobody seriously questions his place among the all-time greats. To me that statistic says more about awards than about him. His rapid-fire, almost percussive flow reshaped what a verse could sound like, and his durability across decades is the real trophy. I was glad to see the 2024 MTV Global Icon award finally arrive. Beyond the mic, his work as a producer and businessman shows an artist who understood the game off the booth too. He earned his legend the long way.
