My Take

What strikes me about Carl Lang is the conviction, not the controversy. Born in Normandy in 1957, he spent three decades inside the National Front before walking away in 2008 to found his own Party of France. That move tells me a lot: here is a man who would rather carry his own banner than inherit someone else's. I find his politics far from my own sympathies, yet I respect the rare stubbornness of someone who builds a new vehicle from scratch in his fifties. Whatever you make of his ideas, Lang is a true believer, and true believers always leave a mark on history.
