My Take

Carlos Gruezo earns my respect for the intelligence in his game. Out of Santo Domingo, Ecuador, and the son of a footballing father of the same name, he was practically born into the sport. At 171 cm he's far from imposing, yet he covers both defensive midfield and central defense, which tells me his reading of the game compensates for any lack of size. Representing Ecuador on the world stage is no small thing. I have a soft spot for smaller players who thrive on brains over brawn; they tend to last and to teach you something about positioning. Gruezo is exactly that type.
