My Take

Casey Calvert interests me as a case study in owning your own narrative. Plenty of performers stay in front of the camera; she moved behind it as a director and then picked up a pen, writing about her industry for mainstream publications and collecting screenplay awards along the way. Naming herself after a college professor tells you something — this is someone who approached an often-dismissed field with deliberation and intellect.
