Chang Kuo-wei

Chang Kuo-wei is one of those rare figures who makes you do a double-take — a Taiwanese billionaire who doesn't just run an airline, he actually flies the planes himself. He built Starlux Airlines from scratch into one of Asia's most buzzed-about carriers, with its sleek branding and premium-first approach carving out a real identity in an industry full of generic me-too carriers. Before that, he was at the helm of EVA Air. The man holds type ratings on multiple wide-body jets and a professional maintenance licence, which means he genuinely knows what's holding the aircraft together. Earning France's Legion of Honour and landing on Asia's Most Influential list four years running from 2021 to 2024 says something — this is not a figurehead CEO, he's the real deal, and I find that quietly impressive.
