Nobuo Kawakami

I have a soft spot for Nobuo Kawakami, the founder of Dwango who went on to run Kadokawa. Here's a Kyoto University brain who helped drag Japan's early net-video culture forward, yet carries zero of the chest-puffing swagger you'd expect from a tech founder. What gets me is the mix: a hard-nosed businessman who somehow can't resist pouring real money and brainpower into films and dreamy creative stuff, like he never quite outgrew the kid who just loves things that are interesting. He's clearly the analytical type, but under all the logic there's this restless, amused curiosity, watching the internet age from a slightly sideways angle. A 1968 Ehime native who built things instead of posing. Quietly, I'm rooting for him.
