My Take

Charles Melton's path is the kind I root for: born in Juneau, Alaska, about as far from Hollywood as America gets, then Kansas State, then fashion modeling, then years of guest spots on Glee and American Horror Story before Riverdale finally gave him Reggie Mantle. Stepping into a role mid-series and making it your own takes real nerve, and he did it with charm to spare. I think the modeling background gets held against actors unfairly; in his case the patience of that long detour reads as groundedness on screen. He strikes me as a late bloomer whose best decade is still ahead.
