My Take
Chey Tae-won fascinates me less as a billionaire than as a steward of scale. Running SK Group, South Korea's second-largest conglomerate with 186 subsidiaries spanning SK Telecom, SK Hynix and SK Innovation, means his decisions ripple through telecoms, semiconductors and the national economy itself. A Korea University graduate, he has bet repeatedly on industries at the center of the modern world, and chairing the Korea Chamber of Commerce since 2021 shows ambition beyond his own balance sheet. Wealth is common; carrying that much responsibility with steadiness is rare. That nerve, more than the net worth, is what earns my respect.
