My Take
What I respect most about Collin Raye is the path he took. Before the solo stardom, he paid his dues in a band, recording as Bubba Wray through the mid-eighties. By the time he topped the charts in 1991 with "Love, Me," that voice carried real weight. Country music rewards lived experience, and a kid from De Queen, Arkansas singing about love and loss feels honest in a way polished pop rarely does. I find the unglamorous, slow-build careers far more compelling than overnight fame, and Raye is exactly that kind of craftsman worth celebrating.
