My Take

Constant Djakpa is the kind of footballer I quietly admire more than the headline-grabbers. An Ivorian left back out of Abidjan, he made his living patrolling the flank, doing the unglamorous two-way work that holds a team together rather than chasing goals. African football tends to get celebrated for attacking flair, so I like pointing to a defender who built a steady professional career on grit and positioning. He's retired now, but when I think of all the ground a full back like him covered season after season, it earns my respect. Reliability is an underrated kind of talent, and he had it.
