Cristina Raines

What draws me to Cristina Raines is the unglamorous durability of her career. Born in Manila to American parents and raised in Florida, she carved out a busy run through 1970s horror and period films before settling into steady television work in the 1980s. That she modeled first and, after retiring from acting in 1991, became a registered nurse caring for dialysis patients hints at someone grounded outside the spotlight. I admire performers like her more than the headline stars: working actors who quietly hold the screen together. There is real dignity in a long, unflashy resume, and Raines strikes me as exactly that kind of reliable professional.
