My Take
To me, Dario Argento is less a horror director than a painter who happens to work in blood. What I love about Suspiria and Deep Red is how he sacrifices narrative logic for the sheer beauty of a single moment, drenching the frame in primary colors and pairing it with unforgettable prog-rock scores. He turned the Italian giallo into something operatic and dreamlike, and earned his "Master of Horror" title honestly. That he kept directing well past eighty tells you everything about his obsession with the craft. He is, for me, Italian cinema at its most intoxicating and dangerous.
