My Take

Dave Abbruzzese occupies a fascinating sliver of rock history for me. He drummed for Pearl Jam from 1991 to 1994, exactly the window when the band exploded, and his playing powers Vs. and Vitalogy, two of their hardest-hitting records. I find his style muscular and propulsive in a way that gave those albums real heat. Connecticut-born and Texas-raised, he kept making music on his own terms long after leaving the band. What strikes me is the resilience of musicians who keep playing after stepping out of a spotlight that huge. I'd love to hear those grooves live again.
