My Take

Dave Bautista has earned more of my respect than almost any crossover star. Wrestlers-turned-actors usually trade on their physiques; Bautista went the other way, deliberately seeking stranger character roles and studying the craft like a late-blooming apprentice. His Guardians of the Galaxy turn worked because of timing and deadpan precision, not muscle. Starting wrestling at thirty, conquering WWE, then starting over in his mid-forties as a working actor tells me everything about his appetite for humility. Now he writes and produces too. I think he will be remembered as a genuine character actor who happened to be enormous — the best compliment I can give.
