Dave Farrell

Dave Farrell, Phoenix to Linkin Park fans, is exactly the kind of musician I find myself rooting for. In a band defined by screamed vocals and aggressive guitars, it's his bass that gives all that noise a floor to stand on. The ska-punk roots from his Tasty Snax days add a texture you can feel in his pocket. I've always believed the steady, unglamorous players are the ones who make stadium-sized sound actually cohere. Born in 1977 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, he embodies craft over flash, and that's precisely why his contribution to one of the loudest bands of a generation deserves real credit.
