David Barrera

David Barrera is the embodiment of the indispensable character actor. His Gunnery Sgt. Griego in Generation Kill gave him a signature role, but what impresses me is the breadth: Grimm, Heroes, CSI: Miami, The West Wing, 24, with an ALMA nomination along the way. A San Juan, Texas upbringing and UC San Diego training speak to a grounded, disciplined craftsman. He is not the name above the title; he is the actor casting directors keep calling back because he never misses. That kind of quiet durability across decades of prestige television is, to me, a truer mark of skill than any single starring vehicle.
