My Take
Wilson is the rare academic I would actually want to hear talk. A former prison governor turned criminologist who specializes in murder and serial killers, he speaks from inside the system rather than the lecture hall, and that lived experience gives his analysis a weight pure theory never has. I admire people who can stare directly at human darkness and explain it calmly, without sensationalism, the way he does across television and his books. Studying the worst of human behavior year after year demands real steadiness. To me he represents the best kind of public scholar, one who refuses to look away from society's hardest truths.
