My Take

Rudd is exactly the sort of player I gravitate toward: an unglamorous goalkeeper who quietly did the unloved job for years. Coming out of a small Norfolk town like Diss and standing 191 cm, he was a last line of defense rather than a headline-maker, and the near-total absence of public personal detail only reinforces my sense of a craftsman who let the work speak. Goalkeepers rarely get the credit strikers do, so I tend to value them more, not less. Now retired, his is the kind of understated, steady career I find more interesting than louder ones.
