My Take

Denis Villeneuve is the director I trust most with scale. Coming from Bécancour, a small Quebec town, he sharpened his craft winning Canadian screenwriting and directing awards long before Hollywood called, and that foundation shows: even his biggest spectacles are built on silence, patience, and dread rather than noise. The 2017 Hugo Award points to what makes him special — science fiction treated as serious human drama.
