Dev Hynes

Dev Hynes, better known as Blood Orange, is one of those rare musicians whose restlessness is the point. Born in Ilford in east London and working out of New York, he carries that rootlessness straight into the music, which slips between soul, indie, and something gauzy and nocturnal all its own. What I admire most is his refusal to sit in a single lane while writing, producing, and playing nearly everything himself. The 2024 Latin Grammy only confirms what fans already knew: he keeps quietly widening his palette. I trust artists who chase their own curiosity over trends, and Hynes is firmly one of them.
