Edward Fox

Edward Fox belongs to a vanishing breed of English actor whose power lives entirely in stillness. His assassin in The Day of the Jackal remains, for me, a masterclass in cold precision: a man with no name, no warmth, and yet total magnetism. Two BAFTA awards and an OBE confirm a long and serious career, but it is that single role I keep returning to. Within a famous acting family, Fox always struck me as the quiet one whose restraint outclasses louder talent. There is a refined, unhurried Englishness to him that modern screens rarely produce anymore.
