My Take
Edwyn Collins is one of my quiet heroes from British music. As the voice of Orange Juice he helped shape the jangly, literate edge of post-punk, and his 1994 solo single A Girl Like You remains an impossibly cool, instantly recognizable global hit. What I respect most is his range, singer, producer and label owner, a true craftsman who never chased the mainstream yet earned an honorary doctorate. His recovery from a serious brain hemorrhage and return to recording only deepens my admiration. He's the kind of stubborn, principled artist whose dedication to his own aesthetic I find genuinely inspiring.
