Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski strikes me as one of the most quietly subversive figures the modeling world has produced. Signed by Ford at a young age and elevated to global fame, she could have coasted on imagery alone; instead she turned her own commodification into her subject, writing and arguing about who actually owns a woman's body and image. I find that intellectual turn far more interesting than any campaign she has fronted. London-born, California-raised, and briefly a UCLA student, she sits between worlds and uses that vantage point sharply. She proves that being looked at and looking back critically are not mutually exclusive.
