My Take
Ena Shibahara is the kind of tennis player I find myself quietly rooting for precisely because she's not all flash. Born in 1998, standing 175cm, she built her name in doubles — and there's something genuinely compelling about that choice, because doubles is a craft that doesn't let you hide. You have to read your partner's body language in a fraction of a second, hold your lane, and trust each other completely under pressure. That's not the path you take if you're chasing headlines; it's the path you take if you actually love the game. She grew up in California and chose to represent Japan in 2019, then climbed to No. 4 in the world in doubles, and that kind of quiet self-direction feels rare and refreshing. Let the racket do the talking. Works for me.
