My Take

What I respect most about Erik Rutan is that he never settled for being just a frontman. Pounding away in Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse would be a full career for most, but he also fronts Hate Eternal and, crucially, runs his own Mana Recording Studios in Florida. That tells me he loves the craft of sound itself, not just the spotlight. There is something quietly admirable about a heavy artist who chooses to sit behind the board and make other bands sound their best. He is a builder as much as a screamer, and that longevity reads as genuine devotion to the music.

He is the guitarist and lead vocalist of death metal band Hate Eternal, as well as the lead guitarist for Cannibal Corpse. Rutan has also played with Morbid Angel and Ripping Corpse.
