My Take

Jantjies earns my genuine admiration simply for where he comes from. To reach international rugby out of Gobabis, Namibia, a nation that punches far above its size in this brutal sport, takes a kind of stubborn dedication most fans never see. As a scrum-half he is the on-field conductor, the smallest man making the biggest decisions, and that role demands brains and nerve in equal measure. Playing on for the Welwitschias, he embodies athletes who compete on pride rather than budget. I will always root harder for the players climbing from the edges of the map than for those born into the spotlight.
