My Take
What I admire most about Fred Turner is that he never needed the spotlight to matter. As the bassist and gravel-voiced vocalist who anchored Bachman-Turner Overdrive, he was the engine room rather than the showman, and that suits my taste perfectly. The fact that he still makes only select concert appearances since the 2023 reunion feels less like fading and more like a man who has nothing left to prove. There is something quietly heroic about a Winnipeg kid building a sound that outlived its decade, and at over eighty he commands my full respect.
