Rika Adachi

I've got a real soft spot for Rika Adachi, because she's one of those rare gravure-graduates who didn't get boxed in by the pretty-girl label. She came out of Mie Prefecture, got noticed for her looks, and then just quietly became one of those faces you see everywhere—variety panels, dramas, the works. What gets me is the warmth: a lot of camera-perfect idols feel a little untouchable, but she's got this goofy, easy laugh that immediately makes a room feel friendlier. There's a sturdiness under the cuteness, too, like she knows exactly what she's doing and isn't sweating it. I respect performers who can both hit a mark and crack the crew up between takes. Honestly, I just hope she keeps showing up on TV being her relaxed, sunny self for a good long while.
