Gad Elmaleh

Gad Elmaleh fascinates me precisely because comedy travels so badly across cultures, yet he managed to conquer France, Morocco, and even attempt the American stand-up scene. Carrying a Moroccan-Jewish background into French cabaret and then English-language comedy takes real nerve. His film work, from Midnight in Paris to Priceless, proves he is more than a stand-up act. To me, he embodies the rare comedian who treats borders as a challenge rather than a ceiling, and earning the Order of Arts and Letters along the way confirms that ambition paid off handsomely.
