My Take

Khannouchi fascinates me as a story about belonging as much as speed. Born in Meknes, Morocco, he became an American citizen and then held the marathon world record, which means he reached the very top after uprooting his whole life. The marathon punishes shortcuts; every mile he logged in an unfamiliar country is written into those records. Times eventually fall, but I find the immigrant arc behind them far more durable than any number. To run that far, that fast, while rebuilding your identity in a new land takes a stubbornness I deeply respect.
