Geraint Thomas

Geraint Thomas is the kind of athlete I genuinely admire. A Cardiff-born Welshman who reached the top on both track and road, he spent years as a loyal domestique, burning his legs for teammates before finally winning the Tour de France in 2018. That moment moved me, because there is nothing better than a long-time supporting player getting his deserved spotlight. He carries an OBE and a craftsman's quiet steadiness rather than flashy showmanship. I find that understated, hard-earned excellence far more compelling than easy charisma. Thomas embodies patience, loyalty and the dignity of doing the unglamorous work.
