My Take

Gervinho was one of those forwards I never wanted to miss. From Anyama in the Ivory Coast, he carried a dribbling style nobody could copy, that hunched, surging run straight at defenders. People loved to debate his finishing, and yes it ran hot and cold, but on his good days he was simply unplayable. What stays with me most is the journey itself, a young African player carving a path through Belgium, France and the Premier League largely on his own. I gravitate toward players who refuse to fit a mold, and he never did.
