My Take
Gheorghe Muresan holds a permanent place in my NBA memory, and not just because he stood 7 foot 7, among the tallest ever to play the game. The Romanian giant won Most Improved Player in 1996 with the Bullets, which people forget, he was a legitimately productive center, not a novelty. Then he charmed everyone all over again starring opposite Billy Crystal in My Giant. There is a gentleness to his story that I really like, a kid from Cluj County who turned his extraordinary frame into a genuine career. Easy to root for, hard to forget.
