Go Shiina

I have a soft spot for the people who make the music you feel but never see, and Go Shiina is exactly that kind of guy. Born in Saitama back in 1974, he's a composer and arranger, which means he doesn't just write a tune, he builds the whole skeleton and decides which instruments breathe life into it. To me that's the most underrated craft in entertainment. His stuff has this huge, cinematic, sometimes choir-and-orchestra swell that grabs you by the chest before you even realize a piece of music is playing. I love that he works in the background while basically deciding the emotional temperature of whatever he scores. There's a patient, methodical, almost stubborn quality to that kind of artistry, and honestly I just want to close my eyes and let one more track wash over me.
