Masahiro Higashide

I'll admit it, Masahiro Higashide is one of those guys who just has to stand there to fill a frame, all 189 centimeters of him, with this quiet, unreadable stillness that I find weirdly magnetic. He started out as a fashion model, but the second he pivoted to acting he started snagging newcomer prizes, and that's when I clocked it, this isn't a pretty face coasting, he can actually act. There's a slippery, half-asleep calm to him that melts into roles instead of announcing itself. And then offscreen the man's a wild card, a 2020 affair with actress Erika Karata that cost him endorsements and his marriage one minute, off living some self-sufficient mountain life the next. Honestly I can't tell if he's reckless or just allergic to the showbiz mold, but that refusal to be boxed in is the most him thing about him.
