Graeme Lowdon

Graeme Lowdon appeals to me because he shapes Formula 1 from the boardroom rather than the cockpit. A Sheffield-educated engineer turned entrepreneur from Corbridge, he led the Virgin and Marussia outfits and most recently served as principal of the new Cadillac team. What I admire is the combination: the technical mind to understand the machinery and the executive nerve to actually field a car at the sport's summit. Plenty of people talk about racing dreams; far fewer assemble the organization to chase them. That grounded, build-it ambition is exactly the kind of behind-the-scenes story I find quietly thrilling.
