Greg Brown

Greg Brown is exactly the kind of folk songwriter I trust on instinct. Born in Ottumwa and raised in the Hacklebarney hill country of southwestern Iowa, he sings in an unhurried voice that follows no trend. Born in 1949, he has spent a lifetime telling life's small truths with a guitar and a plainspoken honesty that resists fashion. I value artists who work quietly off the charts, building songs that settle into you slowly instead of demanding attention. To me he reads as a craftsman first, and that patient, rooted approach is the part of American music I respect most.
