My Take
Günter Netzer is my idea of a complete footballer. A visionary playmaker who built a golden era at Borussia Mönchengladbach before conquering Spain with Real Madrid, he won German Footballer of the Year twice in the early seventies. But what I admire most is his second act: an executive and pundit so articulate he earned a media award for linguistic standards. The long-haired maestro who commanded the pitch went on to command an audience with words. Intelligence on and off the field, paired with lasting cultural relevance, makes him far more than a former star to me.
