My Take
John Herrington's story gives me genuine chills. As an enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation, he became in 2002 the first Native American tribal member to fly in space, and I think that milestone deserves to be told and retold. Born in Oklahoma in 1958, he built a remarkable resume as a United States Naval Aviator and engineer before NASA, and he later became a hydronaut too. There is something poetic about a man who has reached both the ocean depths and orbit. For me he stands as proof of how far representation in exploration has come, and how much further it can still go.
