Han Kwang-song

Han Kwang-song is genuinely one of the most fascinating stories in modern football, and I mean that with zero exaggeration. This guy grew up in Pyongyang — North Korea, one of the most isolated countries on the planet — and somehow ended up signing with Cagliari in 2017, becoming the very first North Korean to play in Serie A. He scored on his debut. His debut! As a teenager! The audacity of that is just extraordinary when you stop to think about what it took to even get to that moment. Everything about his personal life is understandably guarded, which makes sense given his background, but every time he steps onto a pitch for the North Korea national team you're watching someone who carries a weight and a story that no other footballer in the world quite shares. I follow him quietly and I think about how wild that journey must actually be.
