My Take

I keep coming back to how unfair it is that one guy could do all of this. Haruma Miura started as a child actor out of Tsuchiura in Ibaraki and just never left the front line, racking up real recognition like a Japan Academy Prize along the way. Plenty of actors coast on a pretty face, but he wasn't that, he could actually act, sing, and dance, and he did it without ever seeming pleased with himself. There's something about that quiet, sincere, well-mannered presence that pulls you in even harder than the talent does. Crimson Tears, The Eternal Zero, all these projects that reached teenagers and their parents alike. Losing him at thirty was a brutal, senseless waste. Watch anything he's in now and you just sit up a little straighter and think, yeah, he was the real thing.
