My Take
Shibata has one of those voices that rearranges a room. As Gihren Zabi in Gundam or King Piccolo in Dragon Ball, he needs one sentence in that low register and you find yourself sitting up straighter. What gets me is the range hiding inside it: the same throat played the Third Hokage in Naruto, all warmth and weariness. Born in 1937, a Nihon University graduate who moved into directing as well as performing, he was still at the microphone in his eighties. Voices like that do not get replaced.
