Hiroshi Kitamura

Hiroshi Kitamura is exactly the kind of athlete I have a soft spot for — no flashy headlines, no celebrity circus, just a guy who's been climbing onto thousand-pound animals every weekend for decades and making split-second decisions at full gallop. Born in 1980, he's been around long enough to earn the quiet authority of a true journeyman jockey, the type who knows every horse's quirk before the race even starts. Riding is brutal in ways people outside the sport rarely appreciate — the weight cuts, the falls, the fact that your office can throw you and run away. Sometimes the most compelling careers are the ones that don't need a press release.
