My Take
Jean Marsh earns my respect because she did not just star in Upstairs, Downstairs, she co-created it. To me that is the difference between being cast in a hit and building one. Winning the 1975 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress as Rose Buck, then returning to the role decades later in the BBC revival, shows a loyalty to her own creation that I find rare and admirable. The English actress and writer, born in 1934, was later made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2012. What I take from her career is that an artist who controls the writing controls her legacy too.
