My Take

Jeff Fowler has my admiration for pulling off one of cinema's trickiest assignments. Trained in animation at Ringling and Oscar-nominated for the short Gopher Broke, he went on to direct the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog films, a genre littered with failures. What impresses me is that he actually listened to the fans, even reworking the design, and turned skepticism into a beloved franchise. Moving from animation into big live-action blockbusters takes real range. To me Fowler embodies the unglamorous craftsmanship of a director who respects both the source material and the audience that loves it.
