My Take

Jim Diamond owned one of those voices that lodges in your chest, full of ache and Glaswegian grit. What I respect most is the story behind his UK number one, "I Should Have Known Better," where he reportedly asked fans to stop buying it so a charity single could take the top spot. That generosity tells me more about the man than any chart position. Add the Boon theme "Hi Ho Silver" and you have an artist who stamped his mark on British pop. He passed in 2015, but to me his songs still carry that warmth forward.
