My Take

To me, Jimi Jamison is the voice that defines a certain era of arena rock. Fronting Survivor and belting out "Burning Heart" for Rocky IV, he had a soaring, muscular tenor that could lift an entire stadium. I find it fitting that he came out of Holmes County, Mississippi, because there is a Southern soul woven into his delivery that pure pop singers rarely match. He was never about spectacle or scandal; he simply sang his heart out. Losing him in 2014 was a real blow, but those songs keep his voice alive in every replay of those iconic film moments.
