My Take
Joan Rivers is, to me, the bravest comedian America ever produced. She walked into a profession built by and for men, made herself both the weapon and the target, and never once asked permission. Her acerbic, self-deprecating style gets imitated constantly, but imitators miss the engine underneath: a ferocious work ethic and a refusal to be pitied. She performed practically until the day she died at 81, treating every audience like a verdict she intended to win. I don't love every joke she told, and some aged badly, but I love what she proved: that a woman could be sharp-edged on purpose and beloved because of it.
Overview
Joan Alexandra Molinsky (June 8, 1933 – September 4, 2014), known professionally as Joan Rivers, was an American comedian, actress, producer, writer and television host. She was noted for her blunt, often controversial comedic persona that was heavily self-deprecating and acerbic, especially towards celebrities and politicians, delivered in her signature New York accent.
