Joe Morgan

Joe Morgan is my favorite kind of baseball player: the small man who out-thought everyone on the field. Twenty-two seasons at second base and back-to-back MVP awards in 1975 and 1976 weren't built on power but on intelligence, speed, and flawless fundamentals. As the engine of the Big Red Machine, he showed that brains can dominate a game obsessed with brawn. I've always respected athletes who maximize every ounce of ability, and Morgan was the ultimate example. His passing in 2020 closed a great chapter, but for me he remains a little giant of the sport.
