Joel Kim Booster

Booster is one of the sharpest comic minds working right now, and Fire Island is the proof. Writing, producing, and starring in a film that reframes a literary classic through a queer Asian-American lens, and landing Emmy attention for it, is a triple threat that most performers only dream about. What I admire is the confidence to make his specific perspective universal rather than niche. The persona is all razor-edged self-deprecation, but underneath the bravado I sense a real precision about structure and timing. He's the kind of voice that widens what mainstream comedy is allowed to look like.
